442:uClinux
From The Neuros Technology Wiki
A sourceforge project has been setup for the uclinux port here.
The Neuros442Linux project will develop an alternative, open source firmware base for the Neuros 442 Digital Media Computer (and Personal Video Player). The 442 supports a dual boot mode that will allow development of this alternative firmaware code base without losing the original functionality of the 442.
The Neuros442Linux project is the first of several projects to support the 422 video recorder. The Neuros422Linux project will provide a port of uClinux (http://www.uclinux.org) using Samsung's ARM7 patches (http://opensrc.sec.samsung.com/) for the 422. All programming for this Linux project will use the C language.
It is expected that once uClinux is successfully ported to the Neuros 442, additional projects will be started to generate multimedia applications and tools for the 442. The Neuros422Linux project will provide the platform for those applications and tools. The uClinux port is the first step.
The Neuros 442 is based on the TI TMS320DM270 dual core processor. (see http://focus.ti.com/pdfs/vf/vidimg/dm270pb.pdf). This processor features an ARM7 (ARM7TDMI) general purpose processor that is integrated with a TI C54x DSP and specialized peripherals to support multimedia applications. Neuros is committed to providing technical support to assure the success of this project.
The overall project objectives include:
- Porting of uClinux to the Neuros 442 platform.
- Development of device drivers to support interprocessor communications and multimedia peripherals.
- Ongoing support for the Neuros 442 applications and tools that will follow.
It is worth noting that both the 442 and the Neuros Recorder II are based on the same reference design, so much of the work for this project will be usable on the Recorder II as well.

This is a new list we've created to discuss porting Linux to the 442, but a lot of it will also be pertinent to the N3 and may be something that you folks will be interested in. I'm going to try my best to push as much internal discussion here as possible, so it should be pretty active, with all the internal folks on as well.
