HackersManual:442
From The Neuros Technology Wiki
This is the place to put information to support those "hacking" the 442, ie. voiding the warranty:
[edit] Mechanical
The 4 screws that hold the outer housing on the 442 are T5 Torx screws. Most hardware stores carry them. After removing all four screws, GENTLY pry the shell halves apart. The LCD half will come apart from the rest of the 442. You will need something to pry with, and something to get the separation started. I typically cut one of those fake credit cards (the clear plastic ones that come with credit card offers) into an SD card sized rectangle (with round corners) and use that to pry with. I've found that the ones from Bank of America and American Express seem to work the best. You will need something stiffer to begin separation. A guitar pick works acceptably well, although you may need to remove the round corners. A thin standard screwdriver blade (up to about 3/16") works extremely well but be careful not to slip or you might scratch something.
Beginning from the side away from the power button, slide your separation tool into the seam and slowly twist it until you have a gap at the top or bottom of the unit. Then slide your pry tool a short way into the gap and begin to slowly probe along the top or bottom. It works best if you have two pry tools and are able to work on both top and bottom at the same time. Be very careful and don't rush. Also, and this should go without saying - DON'T USE SOMETHING SHARP WHEN POKING AROUND INSIDE YOUR NEUROS! And don't use too much force.
There are two flat cables connecting the LCD shell half to the 442 motherboard. The larger one is for the LCD and the smaller is for the buttons. The battery is a 18650-2200mAh Li-Ion battery with tabs soldered to a charge control circuit with a three pin connector (only the outer two are in use). Internal screws require a #0 Phillips bit.
[edit] Looking inside the 442
I just finished writing up my dissection of the 442 (at http://devices.natetrue.com/442dissection/ ) and I was wondering - what are these mystery connectors that I point out? There appear to be two, one of which has its socket mounted to it ready to be connected to. Are they anything special?
