Windows Instructions

decompress the bz2 file, you can use bzip2 if you don't have decompression software that can do it.

use dd for windows to write the image to USB drive

Linux Instructions

decompress the bz2 file and dd to USB disc.

Insert the USB stick into the computer and monitor the kernel messages to find what logical drive it is associated to. In this example the drive will be /dev/sdx, but it will most likely be /dev/sd{n} with n being c, d, e, f, g, etc. It is very critical that you use the correct device file, or you will corrupt something on your system. /dev/sda is usually the boot drive, so do not use that unless you really know what you are doing.

Once you know the device, use the bzip2 command to write the data. This must be executed as root or by using sudo.

bzip2 -d v1.5.02n.img.bz2 | sudo dd of=/dev/sdx bs=1024
