[NOTE: It should be possible to connect a USB to serial cable to the host and connect it through VMware configuration (VM -> Removable Devices -> USB Devices). I have a USB to serial cable and went through all the steps with minicom attached to /dev/ttyUSB0 which I could see, but it did't work? -SE]

[NOTE: It should also be possible to attach the host serial to the VM serial by adding a serial device to the virtual machine settings. I have not tried this -SE]
